Dr. Ann Hopkins
|
Dr.
Hopkins was awarded a PhD in Pharmacology from University
College Dublin in 1999. Following this she carried out
post-doctoral research in Emory University, Atlanta, GA, USA.
Her work there was with an internationally-renowned adhesion
biology group, exploring the structure and function of
epithelial adhesion complexes at cell-cell and cell-matrix
interfaces. During this period she was awarded a prestigious
individual Research Fellowship Award in the US.
In 2005 Ann began lecturing in the UCD School of
Medicine and Medical Science, and working on a number of
research projects including Breast Cancer. In June 2007 she
took up a research lectureship in the Department of Surgery,
RCSI. Her group explores the role of altered cell-cell and
cell-matrix adhesion in cancer and inflammation, with a
particular interest in pathways which could control the
conversion between in situ and invasive ductal carcinoma of
the breast.
|

|
| Dr Hopkins is currently conducting a
three year research project entitled "Regulation of cell-cell
and cell-matrix adhesion complexes during progression from in
situ to invasive breast carcinoma" sponsored by the Irish
Cancer Society | |
