Professor Richard Clarke, BSc, MB, PhD, FRCA

Professor Richard Clarke, retired anaesthetist and Honorary Archivist at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast has compiled a biographical directory of 6,000 Ulster doctors which covers the lives of Ulster doctors from the eighteenth century to 1901, including such notable figures as William Drennan, Charles Lever and Augustine Henry. In this lecture, Dr Clarke will concentrate on some lesser known figures in Ulster medical history, including two physicians, Sir James Murray and Robert Esler; two general practitioners, John Simpson and George Matthew Thompson; and two surgeons, James Moore and Howard Stevenson
